Help me give my students 30 sensory focus Calm Strips to help alleviate stress and anxiety helping them to have successful days at school. Sensory tools help the increased number of students who experience anxiety and depression.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a high school counselor, I have observed a significant rise in anxiety and depression among our students in recent years. The pressures of academic achievement, social dynamics, and planning for college contribute to an environment where mental health struggles are increasingly prevalent. This rise in anxiety and depression emphasizes the critical need for effective support systems within the school environment. Counseling services play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges by providing students with strategies to manage stress, develop coping skills, and maintain emotional balance. By working closely with a counselor, students can learn to navigate their stressors and cultivate a positive mindset, which is essential for their overall success and well-being.
In response to this growing need, it is crucial to provide students with sensory tools and fidget items that can assist them in managing their anxiety and stress during the school day.
Sensory tools, such as stress balls, fidget spinners, and textured items, offer immediate, tangible relief and help students refocus and regulate their emotions. These tools act as a quick intervention to help students calm down and regain their composure, enabling them to stay engaged in their learning and maintain a more stable emotional state. Incorporating these resources into our counseling practice can significantly enhance our ability to support students effectively, allowing them to cope better with the pressures they face.
