Sensory Tools Just Make Sense!

Please help me give my students various sensory tools to help them calm down and learn when they feel anxious or upset.

My Project

My classroom students come from diverse backgrounds and varied educational and home experiences. Some of my students do not go to in-person preschool. They receive special education services such as speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and small group instruction in language arts and math. Some are English Language Learners. Through all this, my students usually come to school each day happy and ready to learn! There are days, though, when they arrive at school, they are anxious and stressed. I am excited to start creating a new sensory space for my classroom. This space will provide them with a safe and warm area they can seek out in times of stress and uncertainty. Having it stocked with sensory tools is a perfect start. I am gathering small tools that will be great for my students to self-regulate. Students must know how to calm themselves and calm down in stressful situations—being calm leads to focus, and being focused leads to learning. This is what we want for all of our students every day!
