My Students

As a special education teacher in a low-income St. Louis City school, I have the opportunity to meet the social, emotional and academic needs of some amazing First thru Fifth-grade scholars.

These scholars transitioned to my self contained classroom at the beginning of the school year and in the past few months we have already seen so much growth in all of these areas from each of these amazing scholars, when progress in past years has not been seen before.

Many of my students come from very difficult situations and work hard so that they can become successful learners. Our classroom is called the Wrap Around Room, as we focus not only on academics but also social, emotional and behavioral skills.

My Project

We are look for additional resources for our sensory classroom that is used to provide sensory breaks to the scholars in our school. First of all, the feelings library books will give the scholars a resource to read while taking a break and help them cope with their feelings in a safe and productive way.

The scoop rockers and weighted lap pad will help provide the sensory input that my some of my scholars crave.

We are also asking for a storage cabinet, bookshelf and laminating sheets to store and keep the materials to ensure that they stay nice and are able to be used for years to come.

The outlet covers will help provide a safe environment for my scholars to take a break, calm down and reset so that they are ready to return to the learning environment.

Finally the floor tape will allow us to make a sensory track on the floor where scholars will be able to practice using different types of sensory diet activities in a safe and beneficial way.
