Children with Autism often experience sensory overload. When this happens, they cannot regulate their bodies and therefore, they cannot participate in classroom activities. Each child requires different ways to meet their sensory needs. I hope to have the tools to help every child in my classroom.
With these sensory materials, I hope to provide my students with the opportunity to meet their sensory needs and help them get back to learning.
Items such as a sand table, kinetic sand, and play-do provide a sensory experience for students who need tactile input. Having a weighted lap pad in the classroom will also be extremely helpful. A weighted lap pad can provide constant, calming pressure when children with Autism are experiencing sensory overload.
