This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my classroom, I work with incredible students with disabilities, many of whom have ADHD and Autism. These students want to do well in school and have become more self-aware of their need for self-regulation. They are eager to learn how to have more control over their bodies and emotions, and it’s my goal to help them develop these skills.

The tools I’m requesting—such as a crash pad, weighted vest, and wobble cushions—are crucial for supporting the process of learning self-regulation.

These sensory tools will provide my students with ways to release energy, manage sensory input, and maintain focus. The crash pad offers a safe space for students to exert physical energy in a controlled way, while the weighted vest provides calming, deep-pressure input that helps with focus and grounding. The wobble cushions will allow students to move in a non-disruptive way, helping them stay engaged during seated tasks.

With these tools, my students will learn to self-regulate in the classroom and then gradually generalize these skills into the general education setting, giving them the independence and autonomy they need to succeed. These resources will empower my students to take charge of their own learning and continue developing the self-regulation strategies they need for long-term success.
