Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love how resilient, curious, and unique my students are. Each one brings something special to our classroom, and I’m constantly inspired by their determination to grow even when learning feels hard. Many of my students experience sensory challenges that can make it difficult to stay focused, calm, or comfortable in a traditional classroom setting. That’s why I’m asking for these specific sensory tools to give them the support they need to thrive.
In our classroom, we celebrate differences, and I want to create an environment where all students feel comfortable and supported.
That’s why I’m requesting sensory items like weighted plushy, floor tiles, and body socks. These items aren’t just toys, they’re essential tools that help my students access learning in the way that works best for them.
The weighted plushy will provide calming, comforting pressure that helps students feel secure and grounded, especially when they’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious. The sensory floor tiles will give students a safe and engaging way to move their bodies in a way that helps them regulate their energy and attention. These tiles are perfect for brain breaks or as part of a sensory path to refocus during transitions. The body socks are stretchy, full-body sacks students can move and push against. They are especially helpful for those who crave deep pressure input. They support body awareness, coordination, and emotional regulation, all while feeling like play.
With these resources, I can create a classroom that meets my students where they are helping them feel calm, focused, and ready to learn. Every student deserves that kind of space.
