Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I accepted a position at a different school. I will be teaching in a substantially separate classroom for students with social, emotional and behavioral needs. I am eager to begin the year and meet all my wonderful students, but I know that I will need a variety of different materials to meet all their individual needs.
Along with the variety of special needs my students have, almost all of my students come from low- income homes.
My students require an organized and productive learning environment. I work to make my classroom a safe and inclusive space where all my students can learn and thrive. My focus is to teach functional academics and social skills. My students love to learn and this will make their learning experience that much more successful and rewarding.
My Project
The fidget toys and flexible seating listed will help enhance my students’ learning. My classroom will be a safe and peaceful place, where students can use these tools to cool down and learn to explore their senses. When are student's sensory and behavioral needs are met, they are able to be more successful. My students are taught to monitor their emotions, so by having access to fidget toys, such as the sensory sox’s, the stretch and squeeze balls, the tangle fidgets, the stretchy string, textured balls, and snap and click fidget toys, they are able to enhance their focus and take breaks. The flexible seating, such as the wobble chair, the ball chair, and the bean bag chair, will allow my students to choose appropriate seating that is comfortable for them.
When behavior and social/ emotional needs are met, learning can take place, and these tools are the perfect way to do it.
