This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have two amazing groups of students in my AM and PM preschool classes. They are made up of a very diverse group of students with varying levels of needs, including students who are blind/visually impaired and who are hard of hearing. Many of my students also come from low-income homes.
My Project
I am looking to give my students new sensory experiences when they come back to in-person learning. This is my second year teaching and since students went remote last spring I have never gotten a chance to teach the fun spring curriculum. I am looking forward to my students hopefully coming back in the spring and have been trying to replace missing or broken materials from years past.
Some of our spring units focus on insects and ocean animals, which brings a lot of fun hands-on learning activities and exploration to the sensory table.
These materials will also be used with my students who have visual impairments who depend on these texture experiences when learning through touch. The texture shells will be the perfect activity for them to dig through the sand and find the shell textures that match.
Some of these materials like the fish counters could be used during remote learning for counting and other activities if students are not back to in-person learning.
