Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in my kindergarten classroom are special because they are unique individuals with their own strengths, interests, and learning styles. They are also curious and eager to learn, bringing fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to the classroom. This project will integrate sensory materials into my kindergarten classroom through various methods, including creating dedicated sensory areas, incorporating them into daily routines, and providing opportunities for exploration and discovery. This will include the sensory table, tactile manipulatives, and sensory stations that engage the senses of touch, sight, hearing, and more. The primary goal of this sensory table project is to provide my students with opportunities for hands-on exploration and multi-sensory learning, stimulating various developmental areas. This includes fostering fine motor skills, cognitive development, social skills, and creativity through open-ended play.

These specific materials will be integrated throughout the school year and paired with the academic curriculum to better support the learning styles of my students.

Manipulatives, tools, and materials will be rotated to maintain engagement, promote learning, and prevent hygiene issues. Regularly rotating materials keeps children interested by offering new textures, sounds, and visual experiences, which can stimulate curiosity and exploration. It also allows for exploration of diverse materials and manipulation, encouraging the development of fine motor skills and cognitive abilities. By adding mirrors to this area of the classroom, it will enhance exploration by offering a visual perspective, sparking curiosity, and aiding self-awareness and emotional development. Students can observe their own reflections and facial expressions, fostering self-recognition and social-emotional growth.
