I teach in a classroom of predominantly boys with autism. My students have difficulties with sensory integration and often need a lot of sensory input to help regulate their emotions. Processing everyday sensory information can be difficult for my students.
Sensory swings create a safe, calming environment that helps children with autism regulate their emotions and their sensory systems.
Swinging also increases blood flow, including flow to the head, which studies show improves focus and attention.
During the day my students get sensory breaks after doing their work. These breaks not only help my students reset their sensory systems and regulate their emotion after working, it allows for them to process the information so that they are ready for the next activity. I will use this swing in our sensory area so that my students can benefit from the level of sensory benefits that swinging offers.
