This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a new teacher setting up a classroom for 4th to 5th grade students on the Autism Spectrum. Sensory tools such as Theraputty, slime, therapy bands, weighted items, etc., help them with self regulation which helps them be available to learn. Building leisure skills is a common goal for many of the students in our Autism classrooms. Activities like kinetic sand and squigz give them an opportunity for independent play or turn taking activities. Flexible seating and a comfortable rug for a calming sensory area are also vital for break opportunities.
