My Students
Addressing student individual sensory needs is critical to support their overall learning and development.
My students participate in a K/1/2 self-contained program for moderate to severe disabilities.
We are also a Blended program, which means we spend a large part of our day with our 1st grade general education partner class. Our school is an incredibly diverse community of learners; we are a Title 1 school.
My Project
Our day is filled with a very structured schedule; students are learning to utilize various forms of communication (verbal and non-verbal) along with occupational and physical therapy while learning academics that are modified to their own abilities. Our staff work collaboratively to meet our students individual needs. The students benefit from having a range of sensory-related items to help them with calming, stretching, and focusing on new learning. Many of our students have mobility issues, and their ability to access a range of sensory and mobility supports are key to their physical wellness as well as their emotional wellness.
We are fortunate to be supported by our specialists in the district, but our class does not have any financial support.
Many of the items are purchased by teacher personally. Our students have shown to benefit significantly from utilizing sensory materials that support their physical and emotional wellness. These items will enhance our program by providing students with additional supports and sensory materials. These materials will be used by students in our whole class.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
