My Project

I am a special education teacher in a pediatric hospital setting. I work with students who are nonverbal and non-ambulatory. My students are hospitalized due to illness, surgery, and injury. Since my students are nonverbal, they use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to communicate with their world. My students use programmable devices, iPads, special computers, symbols, photographs, etc. to communicate their every day wants, needs and thoughts to the world.

My students need sensory items in order to target academic and therapeutic goals.

Because I work in a hospital, it is important that my students do not share items with each other because of infection control guidelines. Everything needs to be individualized. I am asking for pop its, pop tubes, and squishy balls so my students will be able to keep these items which they will use to stay focused.
