Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A sensory space allows students to take charge of their social/emotional and sensory needs. In order for all students to be engaged in their learning, it is important that they are in an emotional mindset of learning.

Currently, all of my students do not have adequate space in order to take sensory breaks or mindfulness breaks in order to be ready to learn.

By providing them with flexible seating and sensory tools like water visuals and timers, they will increase their attention to learning. It is important to create a comfortable space with comfortable seating, soft flooring, and items to use as fidgets. This will help teach coping skills to our students in a manner that is student-led and provides opportunities for exploration.

In the past, I have seen the power of providing sensory spaces to students on the Autism Spectrum in how impactful it can be. All of my students would benefit from a specific space dedicated to having a quiet space in order to fulfill their sensory needs.
