This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sensory play and emotional regulation allow children to release tension and stress in a constructive manner, promoting emotional regulation and self-soothing abilities. As they become more aware of their emotions during sensory play, they also develop a better understanding of their feelings in everyday situations.

Environment, play, and relationships work in synergy to support children's social and emotional development.

Strategically activating each of the five major sensory modalities (i.e., sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) can increase positive emotion and decrease negative emotion. Flexible seating channels excess energy, motivates learning, increases engagement, and improves posture. The use of adaptive seating can help develop motor skills, facilitate arm and hand mobility, visual scanning and tracking, and reduce the need for assistance from caregivers.

Flexible seating and sensory items support sensory and emotional regulation by offering students choice and control over their learning environment, allowing them to select seating options that best meet their individual needs and preferences. This can help students stay focused, engaged, and better manage their sensory and emotional responses during learning
