Sensory Sensations

My Project

My classroom is all students with IEPS who benefit from materials that help them meet their sensory needs. A lot of my kids have sensory seeking needs as well as attention and focus problems so having access to flexible seating and other tools that will help them meet those needs will improve their ability to focus on academic tasks. My students are with me all day, and it can be challenging for them to use traditional seating all day while remaining on task.

My students have a lot of great skills but they have trouble showing those skills if they can't first meet their sensory needs.

Having access to flexible seating like wobble stools and yoga balls will help them stay more focused since they will be able to meet the need they feel to move while still remaining at their desk. The fidgets will also help with this as it will give them something to do with their hands while they are listening.

At the moment we have traditional chairs and some old metal stools in my classroom, and I'm hoping to use this project to update our seating as well as provide more options for the students so that everybody can find a seat that works well for them.
