My Students

My classroom consists of twenty, enthusiastic and inquisitive young learners with active imaginations and kind hearts. Some of the children are English language learners while encountering their first classroom setting. I work in partnership with my assistant teacher to create a safe, supportive environment for my students with a focus on literacy and language development.

Together, we set the foundation for learning through small group literacy, art, mathematics, and science activities, while balancing the school day with social-emotional problem-solving and self-help practices.

Our activities also promote kinetic movement for active learners as well as whole child, free-choice centers.

My Project

A large sensory table will provide many opportunities for the children to collaborate and explore with sand and water. The children encounter concepts of measurement, volume, motion and more while engaged in sensory play with tools, natural materials and other props. They study animal habitats, sinking and floating investigations, and different textures.

Sensory play provides a collaborative experience for the children in which they discuss their observations, predictions and ideas.

The children have an open-ended opportunity to learn and actively be in the moment with their discoveries. This bigger table will extend and open the availability of sensory play to more children at this well-loved center.
