Sensory, Sand, Water and Fun All Wrapped in One!

My Students

I have the pleasure of working with 55+ students; 3-5 years of age in an Early Childhood preschool and a Special Education preschool. My students are fabulous children working hard to overcome their communication disorders in one or more areas of language: receptive, expressive, social/pragmatic skills, articulation, or functional communication skills. They are all struggling with communication and interaction to some degree ranging from severe (non-verbal communicators with Autism Spectrum Disorder) to mild (speech sound production errors).

My students are fabulous youngsters with a desire to communicate effectively.

Their excitement as they learn through play, therapy, and classroom interactions is contagious. Their perseverance through trials that are most challenging is praiseworthy.

My Project

A sand and water table will be an added asset to our daily learning routines providing a natural learning experience through play. Developing skills for the whole child. I will incorporate specialized and themed toys and materials to support phonemic awareness and encourage increased vocabulary, basic language concepts, and length of utterance. At the same time supporting the more challenged students with one-word utterances through simple language requests when engaged in motivational play activities.

Activities in the sand and water table encourage social skills, cooperative play, develop fine motor skills, increase vocabulary, cognitive skills, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Acquiring a sand and water table will greatly enhance our sensory exploration opportunities. Providing a natural play environment for 50+ students a week and hundreds of students over the lifetime of the sand and water table. With your help, we can bring this fun and engaging learning experience to children in our early childhood center receiving speech and language services, as well as children enrolled in our program for years to come.
