My Students

I currently teach in the PUPALS program at C. Middle School. The PUPALS program contains students who have a moderate to severe intellectual disability, typically with a dual diagnosis of down syndrome, autism or multiple disabilities. The PUPALS students function at a toddler to kindergarten level. To meet the students needs, the class focuses mainly on phonemic awareness, number sense and life skills. PUPALS students get most of their interaction with the general education during meals, interaction in the hall and through classroom volunteers. Some of the higher functioning students may attend one elective such as art or choir.

My Project

Special Education students engage in a lot of self stimulatory (stimming) behaviors. These behaviors can help the students self sooth. One common stimming behavior in my classroom is rocking. I would like to provide my students with a special rocking chair. This chair will be in our reading/ sensory area. The chair will help the students calm down when feeling frustrated or nervous, help them focus during story time and give them a fun place to relax during free time. I am confident that my students will absolutely love this chair. Please help me in providing my students with this chair.
