Sensory Processing Tools for the Classroom!

My Students

I am a teacher in a high poverty school. Many of my students are being raised by single parents or struggling families. The students I teach are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Not only are my students faced with poverty, but they also have special needs. I am looking to provide them with creative, yet meaningful experiences.

My students are energetic, creative, and spontaneous.

They deserve to receive love and lots of positive attention. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their abilities and potential. I want them to experience life and have some of the opportunities they may not be afforded in their everyday lives. I want to do this in a creative and positive way. My focus is to inspire learners of all abilities to believe they can achieve what they dream.

My Project

Our special need kids need headphones to block out classroom noise so they can get work done within their general education classroom. They struggle to close out the noise within their classrooms. The headphones will block out the classroom noise so they can concentrate on their school work. Other kids process sensory stimulation by chewing. Sometimes they chew on their clothes or their lip. We would like to provide them with an ulterior way to chew with the chew block necklaces. This would provide them an appropriate output rather than chewing on clothing or themselves.

Having sensory processing needs means they need different ways to input the world around them.

A sensory blanket to provide security and the needed weight to provide extra sensory input. With a blanket that provides just enough weight to help a student get through a melt down or provide much needed stress relief.
