Help me give my students the tools needed to support their Sensory Processing and access to education.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Badsky's classroom raised $476

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are Kindergarteners and First Graders in a self-contained classroom that focuses on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Helping students with Autism focus and learn.
This new room provides me with a unique opportunity to create a space for young students to learn, explore, grow, create memories, and most importantly be themselves! As a first year teacher, it is my goal to meet the various needs of all of my students, specifically their unique and ever-changing sensory needs. Thank you for supporting my students!
My Project
These items have been carefully selected to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their sensory processing. Sensory processing refers to the student’s ability to register various forms of information accurately and respond appropriately to sensory experiences.
Helping my students find their calm.
Sensory Processing occurs on an unconscious level. Each system has receptors that signal information to our brain. When there is too much sensory input occurring, our body may result in a “fight (meltdown), flight (seek movement), or freeze (passive)” response. When working appropriately, our sensory system works together to help our body stay “just right” for school-based activities, such as reading, writing, and attending to class routines.
I have requested funding for two Pea Pods. These durable inflatable pods offer students a full body sensory input. Oftentimes I will see my students seeking full body sensory input through unsafe means (tapping head with hard objects, throwing body to ground). These Pea Pods help students access this input in a safe and effective manner. I have also requested two swing attachments for our therapy swing which supports my students vestibular sensory needs. These items have been shown to help support our goal of making students feel comfortable at school and ready to learn.
