Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a Title I-funded school with special needs students from K-2. Many of my students have autism and other health impairments. To encourage our students' work we provide them with sensory breaks between tasks.

The items in these TheraPLAY boxes will be utilized for our breaks and switched out when new ones arrive to make the sensory area more enticing.

These kits include various texture toys and resources that will help develop important sensory motor skills and stimulate the senses. Each month for six months we will receive items that are therapeutic and selected by an occupational therapist. We want our students to have sensory breaks while helping them to regulate their anxiety and emotions. Also, they often need Kleenex when they are self-regulating their emotions.
