Sensory Play Makes for a Happy Day!

Help me give my students with autism a sensory play area that is filled with a variety of sensory toys to support their needs.

My Project

Hello!

I am a K-2 teacher in an autism program which recently began using the Structured Teaching approach.

My current project will help me create a fun sensory play area where students can reward themselves with a favorite item upon completion of work, or calm down and regulate themselves to be ready to work!

Sensory items are great for helping students to regulate emotions and calm down when feeling overstimulated. My 6:1:1 students crave sensory input, and these items will help them meet this need in appropriate and safe ways. This area will also give them a chance to parallel play alongside a favorite peer in order to develop social skills.
