Sensory Play in Pre-K

My Project

There are many benefits to sensory play in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom. Children love exploring their world through their senses. This type of play builds cognitive skills and influences how the child learns about their world.

Squish, splash, squeeze, pour, scoop, shake, drop, smear, toss, spray, and ooze- these are all ways children explore through sensory play.

My goal for this project is to create an organized system to store and rotate different sensory fillers for our sensory table. Every year the sensory table is the most sought-after center during choice time. The students love to hunt for items in kinetic sand or regular sand, scoop rice, fill pots with soil, or use tweezers to sort pom poms. I included supplemental materials such as sensory tools, acrylic fillers, and animal figurines to help engage their imagination. Funding this project will help us provide our students with more variety!
