Sensory Play All Day!

Help me give my students additional sensory experiences! Sensory experiences are an important part of early childhood education.

My Project

Sensory play and sensory experiences are important aspects of early childhood education. I teach in a preschool special eduction classroom. My students have autism or developmental delays. Sensory regulation is important to help my students access instruction and build relationships.

"The definition of sensory experiences is an object or action that encourages children to use one or more of the senses – sight , sound, smell, touch, taste, balance, and movement." Deborah Stevens-Smith

The sensory cube will give students a relaxing place to regulate. Students often find small spaces comforting. The open aspect of the cube allows the student to see the activity in the classroom and for the classroom staff to see the child.

The low play table will allow students to play in a kneeling position or sitting on the ground. Feeling grounded helps student interaction and attention. Many students enjoy looking at objects from different view points. The table will allow play utilizing multiple senses. It will also make play more accessible for students who are still working on physical development.

The sensory swing will provide vestibular input which aids regulation. This type of swing will provide comfort because of the hugging effect it provides and for the swinging sensation.
