My students need building blocks and clay to improve fine motor skills and to learn important social skills. They need number puzzles for number recognition.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love puzzles and sensory items such as playdoh. We use creative sensory items to teach the students. They find hidden alphabet shells in Moon Sand and communicate the sound to the teacher and their peers. They use puzzles to reinforce various skills while supporting fine motor skills.
I teach a 12:1:1 ratio, which is a class of 12 students, one teacher and one classroom teacher assistant.
My students have various disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Speech and Language impairment, and intellectual disabilities. Some of these children are also ESL. It is important that they find interest in learning, so they can become motivated. Student engagement means full interaction in a lesson, which requires a creative mind!
My Project
My students will use the math puzzles to assist various learners. Some students need support with 1:1 number correspondence while other students are practicing addition and others number recognition. The moon sand will be used for social skills and academic skills as well. Students will find alphabet and number shells in the sand and communicate sounds and numbers to their peers. The play dough is really important for those students who are allergic to gluten and cannot use regular dough.
This project will improve my classroom by instilling fun in learning.
These items will be used as reinforcers and motivators to have my students enjoy learning. These fun activities will especially help the students in my room who are allergic to gluten. This will really mean so much to them.
