Sensory Needs for Special Ed Classroom

Help me give my students the materials they need to aid in their success with varying sensory needs in my first grade special education classroom.

My Students

Our school is a small rural K-2 building. Over sixty percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My room is a first grade cross categorical special education classroom. My team and I serve 22 students with many different disabilities, behaviors and needs.

I have noticed the increase of poor behavior is often an indication their sensory needs are not being met.

This has increased the need for a variety of different sensory items. We all know that each child has individual needs and that is why I am asking for different items to help try to meet their specialized needs.

My Project

I want to give each child the opportunity to learn and be successful in the special education classroom as well as the regular classroom. The students would be able to come to my room during the day for a sensory break. The students can use the items while I am working with them or during their sensory breaks.

My students need extra support for all areas and these items will help them be successful in all settings at school.

It takes a team for our students to have a great day every day. In having these materials/tools, I know this will aid in their learning and development.
