Sensory Needs and Hands-on Tools for Intermediate Autism Classroom
Help me give my students sensory options and calming tools to help them regulate emotions, stay engaged in learning, and feel safe and supported at school.
This project will help create a sensory-friendly classroom that promotes calmness, focus, and emotional regulation. I am requesting a variety of sensory tools, flexible seating options, and calm-down area supplies that will meet the diverse needs of my students.
These items will provide safe and appropriate ways for students to self-regulate when they feel overwhelmed, helping them return to learning more quickly and with confidence.
Weighted lap pads to support focus and reduce anxiety
Flexible seating (wiggle cushions, bean bag chairs)
Sensory bin materials (kinetic sand, water beads)
Visual timers and visual supports for structure and transitions
Calming corner items (soft lighting, white noise machine, cozy seating)
Having access to these resources will transform our classroom into a supportive, safe space where my students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The calming tools will help prevent meltdowns, reduce stress, and build independence. This project will help meet students where they are—and give them what they need to succeed.
