Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a Kindergarten Integrated Co-Teaching classroom at an elementary school in New York City. There are 22 Kindergarteners in my class with a wide range of abilities. They all share the need to be active and learn best when they are engaged and motivated. The additional sensory materials in the classroom will create an environment that encourages my Kindergarteners to play, create, investigate and explore!

We will use the sensory materials to help learn how to self regulate while we spark our curiosity, practice our communication, and fine motor skills.

Specifically the sand, shredded paper, snow powder, and jewels, slime will be a perfect base for the sensory bins. Each one provides a different experience and gives the Kindergarteners exposure to learn sensory attributes such as cold, sticky, and dry. The trays will provide the Kindergarteners with a visual or physical boundary to keep our mess contained. The trays will also further develop their spatial awareness. The sensory tools like the finger maze, liquid timer, and sensory patches will be used for students to self regulate their feelings. The feelings and faces activity will continue to assist the Kindergarteners to identify their feelings to self regulate. The laminating sheets will aid in keeping materials organized and accessible to the Kindergarteners.
