Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach special education students who have a variety of needs. Many of my students have sensory needs and have a hard time processing their emotions. This sensory equipment will help them be able to regulate their sensory needs and will help them be ready to learn each day. It will also help students learn to calm down and handle their emotions by giving them a safe place to calm down when they are upset. It will help them learn coping skills with their emotions. My students will be able to use some of the equipment to help them be able to meet their sensory needs during whole group and small group instruction by giving them a chew tool or a fidget. This will help them focus during learning but also meet their sensory needs. Many of my students struggled during the pandemic to be able to manage their sensory needs and their social-emotional needs. Many of them have struggled greatly to be able to handle emotions that have come up during the pandemic such as fear, stress, or grief. This equipment will give them a place to help them learn to process those emotions. Many of them have had greater sensory needs as well during the pandemic and have struggled from learning loss. This equipment will help them be able to manage their sensory needs so that they can focus on their learning. When their sensory needs are met they are better focused and ready to learn.
