We are a kindergarten through 5th grade school within a thriving, historic neighborhood. Our students come from all over the world with a large percentage of our students taking part in our Spanish Dual Language Program They are curious about the world and want to take in all we have to teach them.
The students I work with are all eager to learn.
They also thrive on strong relationships with friends and love having the opportunity to work in their classrooms building these friendships and learning from their teachers. My students are an integral part of their classroom communities where we as a school believe they are best able to thrive and learn.
My Project
School can be tough at times for many different kinds of kids. Some of the students at our school have ADHD, sensory needs and autism. Sometimes, some of them are just having a not-so-great kind of day. At our elementary, we'd like to work together and provide all these different types of kids with all sorts of different materials to help them be successful throughout their school day. We would like to purchase a swing, body socks, weighted vests, crash pads, weighted blankets, fidgets, chews, and a few other items to see to the needs of as many of these children as we can.
The goal with this project is to provide a space and materials so that all kids have somewhere to calm and fidgets or other sensory items that help them to do this.
The primary emphasis of this project will be to support the growing number of students with autism, ADHD, and other sensory needs. Our school is wanting to provide more for these students and this project is a part of the start of this plan.
