This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at Glassell Park Early Education Centers are new learners! They are in the middle of the Los Angeles area and are low income/poverty level students. Their ages range from 2 to 5 years of age, due to their age they are new learners. Their parents are enrolled in school or are working more than one job. Our school was open in 2013 as a Nature Exploring School, where exploring nature is the key to their development and growth.
My Project
A water table helps them with their social emotional development, fine motor and gross motor skills. It allows them to use their senses while playing, communicating and growing.
The water table will help in our curriculum especially during the ball study and building study.
The children will use the table during the ball study to see which balls float and which balls do not; it will be used during the building study to see how to build or what can be built for water or on water. It can also be used during the clothing study and recycling study. In the clothing study the children learn how to care for clothing. While in the recycling study the children learn how water can be recycled and used to make paper.
The water table can also be used for other sensory fillers, including sand, rice, beans and dirt. These items will help not only in the senses but also science and math.
