Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What if educational achievement was dependent on a school system where supplies aren't always offered, families can not afford to purchase supplies, and children come hungry because due to lack of nutrition? Would you help someone who lives this life? If so, please start here.
My students are between the ages of 5-7.
These children are primarily diagnosed as having autism but may also suffer from other disabilities and medical conditions. They live in a low income neighborhood where poverty and crime rates are high, and parental and community support is low. Many of these children come from broken homes that require a lot of support emotionally, and financially. The school is an inner city public school where more than 90% of the children receive free meals because they are living in poverty. Not only do they suffer from the stress and difficulties of living in poverty, suffering from hunger, and some homeless, but these children also suffer from a lack of school funding. As part of their disability, many of my students have an under developed sensory system, difficulty with fine and gross motor tasks, speech, language, and communication delays. Some have deficits in social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
My Project
Every resource that is listed here will come to good use. Motivation is key to learning and willingness to participate in classroom activities, especially for those children with disabilities. We also need to expose these children to a multi-sensory approach to learning by providing opportunities to engage all of their senses. This will allow for each and every child an opportunity to participate in a way that is fun and engaging. The Cd player will help to stimulate the auditory sense, scented play dough, sorting activities, dry erase markers, glue, and tactile letters will help to stimulate other sensory components and engage students in hands-on learning. These children deserve a chance at a proper education and providing them with resources that are adapted to their needs is particularly important. These resources will help to change the way the students learn in the classroom and will give all of the children an opportunity to participate in ways that are meaningful to them.
Donations to the project will make my classroom a more enjoyable, diverse, fun, and appropriate for learning.
In order to teach special needs children, it is important to have the right tools for each and every child. These items will provide more opportunities for all of the children to engage in meaningful learning activities. These donations will make our classroom environment much more engaging and fun for hands on learning.
