My Project
Sensory areas with hammock chairs help students learn to interact with the world around them in a safe environment that builds up their confidence and ability. Many of my students with disabilities have sensory needs and will try to act out to get the desired simulation. A few of my students are nonverbal and cannot tell me what they need sensory-wise, so having this option in my classroom will let me know what they like during free choice. With this item, the students can have an unrestrained, non-threatening space where they can explore at their leisure, and this freedom lets their teacher see what calms them, rouses them, and what they do or don’t like.
