Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many students in the Autism Spectrum have sensory integration difficulties or sensory sensitivity. Each child has a unique set of sensory needs. My K-2 students are in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Some of my students are sensory-seeking and have the need to run, climb and jump.
Other students are more passive and need arousing input. Children with sensory issues struggle to process information. These sensory issues affect my students and they cannot self-regulate hence, they often have trouble focusing which impacts their learning potential.
Children who are sensory seekers need sensory input to stay on task. I teach sensory integration activities. These activities are designed to stimulate the appropriate sensory system and prompt the brain to process information effectively. My students need equipment to address their many sensory issues.
My Project
Beanbags, weighted vests, weighted belts and weighted blankets provide deep pressure and snuggle effects that can calm a sensory-defensive student. Climbing walls with crash pads will help students feel their muscles and joints, and will assist in building physical strength and targeting flexibility and coordination. Swings and bouncy horses can stimulate an under-responsive child or calm a sensory seeking child. Providing my students with this equipment will help fulfill their sensory needs and will allow them to focus on classroom activities. This equipment will allow them to stay focused on classroom activities hence, making them more successful academically.
When the students are more successful in the classroom, their behaviors improve.
They become more self-confident since they are able to self-regulate and the quality of their life improves.
Therefore, your donation will have a positive effect on my students
