Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students benefit from the use of sensory materials to help regulate their behavior throughout the day. Using sensory items to help students calm down throughout the day, helps them remain engaged and attend to school tasks. They can also help students transition from one activity to the next.
Many of our students are new to having a full school day, so we are building a sensory/calm down time during the day.
During this structured learning time, students will be able to utilize various materials to help meet their sensory needs. The students will have access to a quiet space with dimmed lights, calming music and an essential oils diffuser. The use of the diffuser will create a haven for the students to take a break when having sensory overload in the classroom. We will continue to utilize these sensory bins, paired with various sensory strategies, to help our students learn throughout the day.
