My students need items that will help with sensory strategies and processing. Some of these materials include a resistance tunnels, Sensarock rocker, and texture squares.

My Students
Every day, my students rotate through centers to work on a variety of different skills. Each student has the opportunity to visit the sensory center. In this center, they can use different strategies to help with sensory integration.
My SPICE Preschool class provides services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ADS.
ADS is a general term for a group of complex disorders that affect brain development. One area that ADS may impact is the central nervous system. This means that some of my students may have trouble regulating their tactile (touch, pain, temperature, and pressure), vestibular (detects movement and changes in the position of the head), and proprioceptive senses (components of muscles, joints, and tendons that provide a person with a subconscious awareness of body position). Over- or under-stimulation to these senses may be the underlying reason for such behaviors as rocking, spinning, and hand-flapping.
My Project
My students need materials including resistance tunnels, Sensarock rocker, and texture squares. The materials I am requesting will be placed in my Sensory Play center. They will give my students the opportunity to work on sensory integration and processing with classroom staff or therapists. All of the materials involve the use of either tactile, vestibular, or proprioceptive senses. Sensory integration techniques can facilitate attention and awareness to these deficits, as well as help the students cope with over- or under-stimulation.
Donations to this project will help my students gain the materials needed to work on self-help skills.
They will learn a variety of strategies to self-regulate sensory needs. This can include recognizing the need for extra sensory input, as well as learning the specific tools that can be used to help manage their sensory stimulation.
