Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. They have autism, and communicating for them is hard. But they all love to learn, and I enjoy watching them blossom and grow.
As if their lives weren't difficult enough, many of my students live in shelters and temporary housing facilities.
However, they come in each and every day with big smiles. We all work together to have a great day. We share, we compliment each other on a job well done, and we have developed a classroom community that feels like a family.
My Project
My class is in need of various sensory items to explore different science subjects we will learn about. One of these topics includes learning more about the 5 senses. My students learn best with hands-on materials, and allowing them to explore items such as kinetic sand, rubber toys and bubbles will only enhance their learning.
These materials will allow my students to touch, smell, taste, see and hear.
Through their own personal experiences, they will be able to communicate opinions, write responses and connect to the learning material.
They will be able to experience every facet necessary for their learning. The bubble machine will encourage them to keep going during difficult learning moments.
