This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With 20 students, each with their own individual personalities, coming to school every day is truly an adventure!

"I love coming to school!"

Living in a low-income neighborhood, many of my students love coming to school, getting breakfast, and a warm lunch while learning about different things throughout the day. Not only do they get the structure they desire, but they get to interact with their peers while learning SEL skills that they will take with them into adulthood.

My desire is to support my students in all that they do, provide a fun and creative work environment, and teach them the skills to be the best possible student they can be.

My Project

Introducing literacy and math-based centers through sensory is a great way for students to learn standards through play. In adding a sensory bin to my classroom, first graders will not only be able to have a chance to practice their sight words and math skills, but they’ll also be able to use engaging tools such as magnifying glasses and tweezers.

Adding another way to learn and getting students moving around and interacting with each other is an important SEL strategy that not only builds students' relationships but teaches students other ways to retain the information in a fun way.

Having differentiated materials bought with the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card allows me to add themed learning resources to the bins that not only excite my first graders but keep them engaged. I would love to give my students an opportunity to learn as they play through sensory exploration.
