Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This 50/50 special education preschool classroom is typically made up of 15 children who are eager to learn. In this classroom, myself and two paraprofessionals are constantly working with students independently, and as a group, ensuring student IEPs and modifications are being met. These students can start in this class as young as 2 years, 9 months and they exit the class when they are ready for kindergarten! Our goal for these children are to help them achieve their goals and prepare them for kindergarten. We are consistently trying to find new ways to make our classroom as welcoming and inclusive of all students needs.
My Project
Preschool involves a lot of learning through play experiences. One very important way my students learn is by being creative with their play. Sensory play, such as with sand or water, is a crucial activity that should be included in student's development at school each day.
After a crazy year with COVID, we are excited to welcome students back into the classroom full-time and I want to be able to offer them more opportunities to learn through their play.
These sensory tables would allow me to provide two separate stations during free play inside or recess outside involving sand and water activities. This play incorporates a lot of foundational skills these students require such as socialization, creativity, pretend play, and so much more. Sensory exploration is crucial for young children's development, especially those students with special needs.
