My Project
I am working to create a Sensory Area and enhanced Calming Corner in the health room—a peaceful, supportive space designed especially for students with learning disabilities, sensory processing challenges, anxiety, ADHD, and other emotional or developmental needs.
A Sensory Wall Mirror will encourage visual engagement, self-awareness, and calming reflection.
Flexible seating like the peanut bounce and bean bags allows for safe movement and promotes comfort and focus. The sensory toys will help children self-regulate, manage frustration, and stay focused. Also, weighted Lap Pads Provide deep pressure that helps calm the nervous system and reduce stress or overstimulation.
Students with learning disabilities often face additional sensory and emotional challenges that can interfere with their ability to succeed in a traditional classroom setting. Overstimulation, frustration, or anxiety can lead to emotional outbursts, shutdowns, or an inability to concentrate—making learning even harder. A calming corner gives these students a space to: self-soothe and manage overwhelming emotions, reset their focus in a quiet, nonjudgmental environment, and then return to the classroom more calm, confident, and ready to learn. For some students, these supports are not just helpful—they are essential to their academic success and emotional well-being. I believe every child deserves a safe space to feel heard, calm, and supported. With your help, we can build that space.
