My Students

I teach at a school created to support the special needs of students with autism. I have very energetic students who love to learn but may need support and help with their sensory needs while they learn. Small group learning has been very effective for me to help each student learn at their own pace. Our school is specially trained to help students understand and support their own needs. This allows them to take what they learn here and use it where ever they go. Our students love to work together and create a very unique learning environment that I am proud to be a part of.

My Project

Our school is a school for students with autism. Our students have struggles that other students do not. Each day we need to work with students to increase their social skills. We also need to work with them to increase their understanding of their regulatory system. We use social centers to give students a chance to interact with others in a safe and fun way. We will use these items to set up centers. At each center, students will be taught correct communication skills such as, how to start and continue a conversation. We will also teach how to stay regulated in social situations such as losing or sharing. We set up these stations weekly and call them "social games." During the games, social data is acquired and used to create the next week's social skills lessons. These stations will help me meet my students' sensory and social needs.
