Sensory and Fine Motor Needs of Students With Special Needs

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a setting that is completely devoted to working with students with special needs. This is my first year as a 6:1:1 high school special education teacher primarily working with students with autism and intellectual disabilities. Most of my students are non-verbal. They are so remarkable though! I admire that they come to school ready to work. They are truly my reason for coming to work. They amaze me every day. I have made it my mission as an educator to focus on my students' abilities. After all, Dr. Temple Grandin affirms that "the world needs all kinds of minds".
My Project
These materials will make a tremendous difference in my students lives. As a first year teacher, my mission is to make sure that all of my students academic and sensory needs are met. A lot of my students have many individualized education program goals which focus on improving their fine motor skills so items like the Fill It Up! Fine Motor Jars will certainly help them reach their goals. Additionally, my students have goals to deal with sensory overload. They are learning to request sensory items like Theraputty and the Lakeshore Sensory Ball Set to help keep them calm. By using the items I will be able to assess any improvements in their fine motor development in addition to assessing how they are dealing with sensory overload.
