Sensory Aids for Children of Autism

My students need 12 sets of sensory materials including sensory balls, flashy light balls, massagers, and more in order for them to function to their highest potential In a school setting.

My Students

Can you imagine not being able to control your little body or having your need for sensory input drive you to the edge?

My children of autism struggle with controlling their bodies and need for sensory input on a daily, hourly, and for some even a minute by minute basis.

These children are often very bright, but their need for sensory input overrides their ability to attend and to put forth the knowledge and skills they possess. In our public school we have faced many cutbacks and we have a shortage of resources to assist these children.

My Project

These sensory resources would allow for the development of sensory diets, which would permit these children to receive the sensory stimulation they need and crave on a regular basis. By giving them this sensory stimulation, it calms them enough to continue working on social, life, and academic skills, so they can become contributing members of our society. These resources may seem small in nature and really not that expensive, but the reward they give to children of autism is extensive. This reward allows for the children to continue to grow, develop, and share with others their skills, gifts, and talents.

As a teacher of children with special needs, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child's face light up or for them to use their limited language to tell you that they can do something.

These small successes lead to bigger successes, and before one knows it the children are now reading, doing mathematics, being independent, and able to interact socially with peers. Yes, all because of a small sensory object. That is amazing.
