This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are brilliant, highly motivated, energetic, loving and diverse. For eighty percent of our students, English is their second language, and we also have students with behavior issues and others with challenging home lives. Nearly all students are from low-income households and receive free lunch.
The children love to read and use reading to both learn and to explore the world.
Reading is a gateway to knowledge and gives children the opportunity to take an adventure outside of what they are used to. The students are excited to come to the library and check out books.
My Project
My school is an inclusion school, which mean all students, irrespective of their abilities or skills, are welcomed holistically. During this pandemic, many students are dealing with the emotional issues that has brought anxiety. Everyone needs social emotional skills. I want to help my students learn how to relax, focus and remain calm in a highly simulating environment. The sensory toys will be used to allow students to step away from situations that may cause the to be upset and uncomfortable in their environment. Sensory toys will help students with autism and/or anxiety to relax, stay calm, and focus on a particular event or situation.
