My Project

I am requesting a variety of items for my 2024-2025 classroom. All students in our classroom are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The quote “If you’ve met one person with Autism, you’ve met one person with Autism” has always stuck with me because you cannot build a classroom for students with autism without truly knowing them.

There isn’t one prototypical curriculum or one set of items you need to create an effective classroom for students with Autism, which is why I am requesting such a variety of items in this project.

This year, we have a fun and bright group of 1st and 2nd graders who are ready to grow and learn academically and independently. They also require sensory items to help regulate their busy bodies!

I am requesting items such as the vibrating cushion, spinning toys, floor tiles and stretchy strings for my sensory-seeking kiddos who love to move! The color-coded yoga mats will help with our daily morning yoga which helps get our little bodies calm and ready to learn.

The early reading items such as the magnatabs, tracing books, letter matching and sorting games, phonics game, and the magnetic easel will help my students move from their functional curriculum to a more academic one during our afternoon academic work.

Other items such as the printer, printer paper, binder rings, tape, velcro and laminating paper will help me create personalized activities for each of my students' needs, specifically matching work they can do to increase their independent skills.

All of these items will assist in helping my students in different ways. Sensory items to help with self-regulation, hands-on phonics items to increase academic skills and these basic office items to make bespoke independent work will all help to make our classroom the best it can be!
