My students need scales, sensors and other lab equipment so that they can more accurately measure chemical phenomena.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Matell's classroom raised $968

My Students
The students at my school are unique people who thrive in this small, close-knit environment. Because we are a small school, we can be much more flexible about meeting student needs when they are struggling or flying high. Engaging science experiments are a big part of this and teach much more than just the science content.
Many students who struggle with "book learning" shine when they get to do hands-on science projects.
Since many of my students' post-graduation plans don't involve college, it becomes even more important to emphasize skills that every student can carry with them. Labs are also the window to engaging students with content at whatever level is right for them.
My Project
In order to understand Chemistry, students need to do experiments, and in order to do experiments, we need equipment! At the high school level, I try to get students to think of Chemistry from three different lenses: the "particulate" view of matter and chemical reactions, how we can measure and optimize chemical reactions, and real-world applications. The technology in this project fits into all of these categories.
My students do experiments in order to derive the gas laws, which are key to visualizing matter as particles: the gas pressure sensors will help them quantify these experiments.
They need scales to measure accurate amounts, and our school currently has a shortage of these. Finally, pH is classic real-world Chemistry, and using a sensor to supplement pH paper will allow my students to think about this more quantitatively.
