Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are highly curious members of a self-contained special education class. They are constantly trying to figure out how the world works in their eyes. They attend a completely free lunch school and live in a lower economic area. These students are known to put a smile on anyone's face due to their natural friendliness as well as their curiosity. In order for them to be successful as they become older, they require daily practice in the most basic skills. Our school is transitioning into a middle school next year and is also adding a brand new autism room. This being said, we are needing to develop a sensory room to benefit these students.

My Project

We are starting out as a brand new middle school. In this school, we will have one Intellectually Disabled and one Autism program. These students need to have an area to utilize in moments of overstimulation.

The items I have chosen provide students with the tools they will need to cope with difficult moments.

The seating allows safe and comfortable options. The manipulatives allow the students to hold and use tactile senses to decompress.

This is the first step in preparing our sensory classroom as a new school. Please help us provide our students the necessary building blocks to be successful!
