This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager for access to short, appealing, and digitally accessible literary adventures such as Speakaboo stories.
My students are 97% Hispanic, 70% English Language Learners, and 98% in the Free & Reduced Lunch Program.
They have an amazing appetite for reading, but they prefer to read in small chunks. Our school's top priority is that these children improve in reading by one grade level per year. We have made a huge investment in computers to that end.
My Project
My students will have access to the Speakaboo reading books throughout the school wherever they are on a computer. They will be able to work in small group, as partners, or one-on-one with a teacher or tutor. They will therefore be better able to progress one grade level by year according to our school priorities.
Reading is the heart of educational progress.
My students are English Language Learners who come largely from very poor families who have not had the luxury of reading at home. The Speakaboos reading project will, therefore, not only make a tremendous difference in the lives of my students, but also of their entire families.
