Increasing a child's communication skills is watching them build confidence. Communication is a key part of life. Helping kids to be intelligible, understand language and improve their social skills improves their quality of life. They are able to make friends, succeed in school and prepares them for the future.
I am a Speech Language Pathologist who helps serve over eighty special education students who have a variety of strengths and needs.
Some of their diagnoses include intellectual disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, traumatic brain injury, Down's Syndrome, hearing impaired, visually impaired, learning disabled and cerebral palsy. Acquiring the right materials helps them meet their goals and improve their school experience.
My Project
Many children I see have sensory needs and it affects how well they are able to pay attention in class. These children will often fidget or get out of their chair in order to meet their needs. These tools will be used in order to give them sensory input so they are better able to learn.
Paying attention in class is the biggest part of learning so we need to help get their minds ready to learn.
The Fidget Kick Bouncy Chair Bands allow children to move and feel sensory input on their legs while sitting in class. The Wobble Cushion gives sensory input, helps children sit up straight at their desk and specify where children need to sit during carpet time. The water beads, kinetic sand and Thera putty can be calming to children who are overstimulated.
